Dairy UK has submitted a robust response to the SACN consultation on saturated fats and health.

Commenting Dr Judith Bryans, Chief Executive of Dairy UK said:

“The draft SACN report doesn’t paint the full scientific picture about saturated fat and as a result some of the statements it makes aren’t fully justified.

Although the report is about saturated fat, without a doubt, its results will be extrapolated from saturated fat to foods that contain saturated fat. Without some balance around nutrient richness being brought to the debate, especially when it comes to consumers, dairy could be hit disproportionately by unwarranted negative messages.

“I therefore urge SACN to take note of the numerous points raised in our response and factor them in to subsequent dietary recommendations to consumers”
