Politics of food dominating dairy agenda says David Curry
posted 8th November 2006

The politics of food is set to dominate the agenda of the dairy industry, the Rt Hon. David Curry, chairman of Dairy UK, said tonight (Wednesday).

Issues which a few years ago had been marginal both to political decision-taking and to strategic planning across much of industry have shot into the mainstream.

Mr Curry said food miles, fair trade, environmental sustainability combined with a rapidly changing British society meant that the food industry would have to adapt to change with the same energy as the consumer electronics industry.

Dairy UK backs FSA in hygiene law dispute
posted 12th October 2006

Commenting on the European Commission’s decision to initiate infringement proceedings against the UK Government, Ed Komorowski, Technical Director of Dairy UK said: “The British dairy industry is firmly committed to the highest standards of food safety and to their enforcement.

“In the UK, enforcement falls to the FSA which has established very strong credentials in this area. It is important for the FSA to maintain this strong authority

“What is disappointing is that this issue appears to centre on a technical dispute over test methods, and the Commission’s resort to immediate legal action is unnecessary at this stage. The Commission and the FSA should get together to resolve these issues.

“A disagreement between the Food Standards Agency and the European Commission on how the law should be applied and how hygiene tests are carried out, does not mean that the UK Government is being negligent in its duties.”

Dairy UK deeply concerned over decision by European Commission
posted 6th October 2006

Dairy UK today (Friday October 6) voiced its concern over the European Commission’s decision to close down a Lancashire based dairy.

Dr Ed Komorowski, Technical Director of Dairy UK said: “Bowland Dairy Products Ltd was approved by the Food Standards Agency as complying fully with the various hygiene regulations. Dairy UK is therefore deeply concerned that the European Commission’s decision to order the closure of this dairy is acting contrary to the FSA’s views. This is an attack on the competence of the Food Standards Agency, and Dairy UK fully supports the FSA.”
