Dairy UK has brought together dairy processors, farming
representatives, co-ops and bottle milk buyers to form an organisation that
embraces and gives full priority to the views and opinions of all those involved
the industry.
www.dairyuk.org
Staff operate throughout the UK to ensure the interests of the dairy sector are properly considered in the policy formulation process by the UK government, devolved administrations and the EU.
Identifying opportunities to reduce industry costs is a priority but Dairy UK is committed to the promotion of a vibrant, dynamic and growing marketplace and will participate in maintaining and enhancing the image of milk amongst consumers and opinion formers.
Dairy UK also communicates relevant information to the sector, provides a comprehensive information and advice service to members and disseminates appropriate information through a range of media.
It can also provide forums for the exchange of information throughout the supply chain. The organisation is equipped to co-ordinate promotional activity requested by members, commission and manage relevant research projects, organise seminars, conferences and an industry show. We also provide support for affiliated trade associations.
Collaboration with other industry organisations is an integral part of its operations as is participation in relevant industry international bodies.
Dairy UK also operates efficient and cost effective commercial services, such as The Roll Container Repatriation Scheme and management of the industry’s Climate Change Agreement (through Dairy Energy Savings Ltd). In addition we operate the Association of Cheese Processors and UK-IDF (the UK National Committee of the International Dairy Federation).
The Dairy Council provides information and advice relating
to the health and nutrition of dairy products to consumers, government, media
and health professionals.

From scientific research, messages surrounding health-promotion campaigns and advice and information for consumers and health professionals, the council also has a press office that works closely with the media relating to dairy and nutrition.
The Dairy Council for Northern Ireland is responsible

not currently being dealt with sufficiently to meet the needs of the industry.
Its four main strategies are:

public
The National Farmers Union (NFU) represents the farmers
and growers of England and Wales. Its central objective is to promote successful

The purpose of NFU Scotland is to promote and protect the interests of the Scottish farming industry, influence government, the public and consumers and assist its members to meet the needs of customers.
NFU Cymru is working to secure a better future for Welsh
Farmers and the wider rural community. It believes that farmers must be encouraged
and supported to produce and market high quality food for customers in Wales,
Britain and abroad. It also encourages producers to ensure that they maintain

UK-IDF serves as the United Kingdom National Committee
of the International Dairy Federation (IDF), as well as representing UK dairying
interests at other international bodies.
www.ukidf.org
Membership of UK-IDF is open to any organisation, company or individual in the UK who has a connection with or interest in the dairy sector, and currently includes representatives from dairy trade and producer organisations as well as academic and research establishments.
The UK-IDF also acts as an agent for the sale of IDF publications and offers a discount of 10% on the published prices to Members. These publications normally take the form of an IDF Bulletin or IDF Standard and they also make use of the responses to the IDF Questionnaires which are circulated to all IDF National Committees as a means of gathering information. The IDF also collates world-wide information for the World Dairy Situation, which has become a standard reference document.
