Dairy Energy Savings Ltd (DES) is a company set up by Dairy UK to operate the dairy sector Climate Change Agreement (CCA). This levy has added approximately 15 per cent to a company’s energy bill per annum and milk processing companies can save 80% of this tax by joining the DES scheme and agreeing to reduce their relative energy consumption over time.

UK-IDF is the UK National Committee of the International Dairy Federation.

UK-IDF serves as the United Kingdom National Committee of the International Dairy Federation (IDF), as well as representing UK dairying interests at other international bodies. The IDF, which was established in 1903, is an independent, non-political, non-profit making international association. Over the years it has become the only organisation of world-wide scale providing opportunities for dairying specialists from all disciplines and activities within the field to meet and share information on key issues relating to all aspects of the dairy industry from farm to consumer.

It also acts as an agent for the sale of IDF publications and offers a discount of 10% on the published prices to Members. These publications normally take the form of an IDF Bulletin or IDF Standard and they also make use of the responses to the IDF Questionnaires which are circulated to all IDF National Committees as a means of gathering information. The IDF also collates world-wide information for the World Dairy Situation, which has become a standard reference document.

Providing a ‘voice’ for dairy, The Dairy Council has a team of nutrition scientists that provide balanced, credible and consistent information on a range of areas relating to dairy. From scientific research, messages surrounding health-promotion campaigns and advice and information for consumers and health professionals, the council also has a press office that works closely with the media relating to dairy and nutrition.


The Dairy Council for Northern Ireland is responsible for the generic advertising and promotion of milk and dairy products in Northern Ireland.

The Food Processing Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) is a dedicated resource set up by the DTI and Defra to assist the UK food and drinks industry. It has been established for over three years and offers the food industry access to the latest developments in food processing through a wide range of services including: workshops, seminars, access to research and development funding, training, process development and problem solving.

It employs a number of Technology Translators (TTs) whose role is to act as the interface between industry and academia. These regional personnel and the board of Directors are tasked with ensuring that the activities of the Partnership are led by industry need through industry visits and consultation.
