The Dairy UK guide to sourcing
the finance, equipment, products, training and knowledge
for innovation
![]()
Innovation is the driving force behind any successful organisation.
In life, if animals don’t evolve to keep up with the changing world around them, they become extinct. Similarly, in business, companies must find new ways of using the latest advances to become more efficient and remain competitive. Whether this is achieved through the incorporation of new technology, improving the skills of the workforce, developing new designs, sourcing new markets, better marketing or adopting best practice, the end result is a company that can compete successfully in an ever-changing marketplace.
The innovation process, however, can be a very complicated one and, if you have the drive and vision to move your company forwards but are lacking the knowledge on how to achieve this, then it can be a very frustrating one. Dairy UK has produced this guide to “opening the barriers” and remove the obstacles that are in your way to achieving your aims.
The five sections in this guide provide advice and solutions to anyone who wishes to develop new products or working practices, or refine existing ones, but is unaware of where to source the funding, advice, equipment or raw materials to achieve this.
Opening the Barriers helps you through the process from the start (funding sources, suppliers, consultancies, factsheets), development (training courses), complying with legal requirements (labelling, health and safety, accreditation, copyrights, certification, health claims, environmental issues) nearing completion (transport, wholesalers, multiples) and then (once the process is complete), how to compare the product / process with those of your competitors (benchmarking).
You can access this Guide on the Dairy UK website and also download it from there. Additionally, a complementary website will be launched shortly (linked to the Dairy UK site) that will be continually updated.
By the very nature of the Guide, the listings contained within it will be constantly changing. We will monitor all the sections to ensure that the information shown is up to date but, if you notice anything that is no longer accurate, then please let us know so we can update it.
Similarly, if you have any suggestions for any sections that are not already contained in the Guide, but you believe should be, please let us have your thoughts.
If you have any comments, questions or suggestions please direct them to Ian Wakeling either by phone on 020 7467 2621 or by e-mail to iwakeling@dairyuk.org
